Prologue
~Sawyer~
“This is so cliché,” I comment as his teeth graze my neck.
“No pressure, Sawyer. We can stop anytime,” Zane whispers in my ear, working his fingers inside me, sliding in and out in my wetness.
My body aches for more, so much more.
“I want this,” I moan out.
I really do.
My eighteenth birthday was a week ago. Zane and I have been friends for what feels like forever, and we have been dating for a year now. Even when we weren’t officially a couple, we did everything together.
Three homecomings.
Three proms.
And tonight, we crossed the stage and earned our high school diplomas together.
I want tonight to be special. I want to give him my virginity.
He positions himself over me. Zane’s fingers, his magical fingers that have explored my body and brought me so much pleasure, slide out.
“Sawyer, are you sure?”
I nod as a smile spreads over my face.
“Words, baby. I’ve waited this long; I can wait again.” He rocks his body over me, his erection rubbing me in all the right spots. Skin to skin, I could get off just like this, if he would keep going.
When Zane stills, I whimper, wanting more.
“Sawyer, I hear this hurts, baby. I don’t wanna hurt you.”
Could he be any sweeter? Zane is a virgin, too. Not because he hasn’t asked to have sex tons of times, but because he loves me, respects me, and has waited for me, even when he could have hooked up with lots of other girls.
“Put the condom on, Zane.”
He smirks and moves off me, after a quick kiss. He puts the condom on and I spread my legs, exposing myself to him. With his hand, he slides the tip over my clit, and I want more.
Awkwardly, he tries to push inside me. I feel tight as my body stretches to fit him.
Zane trembles over me as, inch by inch, he tries to make it work.
“You okay?” he asks on a groan.
I bite my bottom lip and nod. “Yeah, Zane. More than okay. I love you.”
He kisses me, finally sliding deeper inside.
The sensation isn’t bad. I like his fingers better, but that could be because he’s going so slow.
Slowly, he pulls out then presses his way back in. It’s not painful, more like a stuffed feeling.
Full.
Complete, even.
I relax.
He moves more.
I find myself starting to like it.
Zane tenses.
“You okay?” I ask.
He moans. “So good, Sawyer, feels so good.”
Wait. It’s over?
When he pulls out, I feel my inner walls contract, wanting more.
He then slides off the bed, and I get a quick kiss to the forehead.
“Be right back, baby. Gotta clean up.”
Wait. What?
Is this really it?
We are both virgins. Maybe he didn’t do it right.
Yes, that’s it.
Next time will be better.
Chapter One
I consider myself a man of service.
Zane
Sliding the arm off me and to the side, I move out from under her. Elizabeth. She’s pretty in the done-up way. Her hair lays out over the pillow like it’s some damn shampoo commercial for the perfect blonde locks. She’s a good girl.
Elizabeth Mason comes from a good family. Her dad is a hardworking man, still working the tire shop downtown, thirty years strong. Her mom is the picturesque woman, always taking care of her man, kids, and house. And her brother, Conner, happens to be my partner and an overall good damn dude.
In fact, he’s such a good guy, I’ll even let him kick my ass for fucking his sister … again. She’s a grown woman and definitely consenting, but I have been down this road with her before. I need to stop. But every time she gives me those eyes and bites that lip, I think about what she can do with her tongue … then, my dick is in charge. When he comes to life, there isn’t enough blood flow or brain cells to overcome his needs, wants, and urges.
Yes, I’m a twenty-eight-year-old male that gives into my cock like a fifteen-year-old boy with a sock and a bottle of lotion. I should have some self-control, and I do, I just rarely choose to use it. Pussy is pussy, and I like it in all flavors, colors, and varieties.
Standing up, I stretch before searching around the floor through all the clothes, finding what I’m looking for. Taking the two steps to the left, I pick up the pink scraps of fabric Elizabeth wore as her panties and carry them with me as I step into my bathroom.
Opening the cabinet under my sink, I toss the panties into the small basket reserved for the keepsakes. Like a serial killer taking a treasure, I am the panty snatcher. I’m the serial pussy lover. Only, I make sure to toss the basket of undergarments every so often because I have no desire of actually keeping the shit long term. It’s a thing and once it’s over I’m good with getting rid of them. Closing the bathroom door, I move to the toilet and take a leak.
Blowing out a breath, I lean over and start the water for the show
er. Stepping under the spray I let the water wash away my night so I can get ready for my patrol shift. I’m a cop and a damn good one. Serve the public, protect the innocent, and uphold the law. I love my job, it’s fulfilling and thrilling.
The bathroom door opens as Elizabeth makes her way inside. She stands there with her long blonde hair cascading down and covering her pert tits. The pink tips of her nipples poke out, making me hard. She bites her bottom lip shyly to which I smirk before curling my finger at her in a come here motion. Following the instruction, she steps into the shower in front of me.
Dipping my head down, I kiss her softly, teasing her mouth with my tongue. Her hands run through the water coming down off my shoulders and onto my chest before she finds her way to settle them around my neck. Pulling her tightly to me, I turn us so she’s under the spray and move her hair behind her so I can drop my head to those tits.
Latching on, I suck like a man starved. Her moan encourages me; the sound alone makes my dick rock fucking hard.
Dropping to my knees, I lift her leg over my shoulder. Her pussy glistens and I dive in, licking between her lips. With my hands firmly planted on her ass, I push her to me rocking her into my face. Kneading her ass with one hand, I let my other slide down the crack of her ass and slide inside her heat from behind, while I sweep my tongue over her clit. Her unique taste explodes in my mouth as she shamelessly fucks my face finding her release.
Holding her against me, I take her weight the best way I can with one leg over my shoulder, while her body rides the aftershocks. When her hands come to my short hair and tug, I slide her leg off gently and stand. With her hands back around my neck, she pulls me to her where my lips crash to hers.
The need in her has my dick ready to play and my head ready to run. She wants it too much. I’ve been down this road before. Elizabeth and I have hooked up. That’s it. We have talked about things and why it wouldn’t work. She isn’t the type of woman meant to be married to a cop. The way she worries over Conner and me every shift – to take things further would inevitably break her.
I’m weak, though. She shows up randomly, like last night, and promises she just wants a good time. Then the next morning – like this morning – she wakes up knowing I am getting ready for work and to move on with life, and she does anything she can to prolong the goodbye.
She turns in front of me, pressing her ass to my erection. “We’re so good together, Zane.” She shimmies no doubt feeling my rock hard cock. “We could have it all.”
I back away as much as I can in the small space of my shower. Grabbing the shower gel, I squirt some on my washcloth and begin to lather my body.
She turns back around to face me. The water cascades down the curves of her body. “Zane, when will we stop playing these games and really give this thing between us a shot.”
Her hand moves to grip my cock. I stifle the groan building as she begins to slowly stroke me.
“We could be so good together,” she repeats.
“No,” I say jerking back and willing my cock to go down.
She releases me as she narrows her eyes at me.
I fight to keep my frustration at bay. “Elizabeth, we’ve talked about this before.” I sigh. “More than once.”
I’m not the kind of man to do commitments. I will inevitably fail. Since my high school love, I haven’t given myself time or the energy to have a relationship. I like life exactly how it is. Go to work, come home and if I happen to find a bedmate for the night, so be it.
Shared release, I do you and you do me. It works. Why fix what isn’t broken?
“You’re never gonna change, are you?” she says with this snippy tone that tells me she’s going to be the ice princess for at least three months again.
“Told you, Elizabeth. Told you time and fuckin’ time again, the life I lead isn’t one where I have time to give to a woman. Last night, what did I tell you? Before I was balls deep with you choking out my name between your wails and thrashing head, what the fuck did I tell you?”
She glares at me yanking the shower curtain back before stepping out.
My cock throbs knowing it’s not going in that pussy again as she starts to make her way out of my bathroom. At the door, she stops and gives me one last look before she smirks.
“You should know, Zane. Sawyer is back in town and this time for good.”
I’m stunned and can feel my mouth hanging open.
“And that look tells me everything I already knew. You’re fucked, Zane. This will be fun to watch you get back what you give out to everyone else.”
Those are her parting words as I lean against the cold subway tiles of my shower letting the water wash me while my mind races.
Sawyer Jones is back home … for good. The one person I gave my everything to, the person who left me in a million fucking pieces is home.
What the hell am I supposed to do with this?
Chapter Two
There’s no place like home – Dorothy was wrong!
Sawyer
“Sawyer, Sawyer!” The screeches continue. “Sawyer, where are you?”
“Coming Mom, give me a second, jeez,” I call back to her as I lug another box of books to my room.
My mom, Talulah Jones, broke her leg in a car accident requiring metal rods to repair it. She also hit her head sustaining a concussion. With her age now in the seventies – I was a late in life baby – and health, she decided she didn’t want to live alone anymore and summoned me home. Since she has given me life, paid for my college and law school with my dad’s life insurance, I need to take care of her.
I want to take care of her.
I just wish she would let me at least unpack my shoes before starting in with the “Sawyer!” wails. Stepping into my room with the lavender walls and glow in the dark star stickers on the ceiling it’s like going back in time.
“This is the color you want?” Dad asks me at the home improvement store.
I nod my head in excitement.
“Momma said you were old enough to pick and whatever you wanted you could get.”
I smile from ear to ear, “Yup, I got all A’s for the entire year on every report card and that reading award so this is my reward! No more Noah’s arc and pink from when I was a baby.” I tell him and the cashier proudly. I want to jump up and down, maybe do a happy dance, but I would probably look absolutely ridiculous.
My dad, he works at a tire shop so we don’t have a lot of money. Mom got to paint my room before I was born in the nursery theme. I’m twelve-years-old and finally getting to redo my room. This is better than Christmas!
I went through a poster phase. The tiny holes in the wall from the push pins can still be seen. Even when I would come home to visit from college, I didn’t have it in me to take down the glow in the dark star stickers. My dad actually put them up to resemble some of the constellations. He loved stars. In the summer evenings, I would be allowed to stay up late just so I could go outside with him and my mom to star gaze.
Then he got sick my junior year of college. The cancer was advanced. In a matter of six weeks he was gone. I begged my mom to let me quit school. Except I was the first one in both their families to go to college and actually have a shot at acceptance into law school. It was a rough time, but with my dad watching me from Heaven, I got through college, law school, and managed to pass my boards.
I spent a year working in the District Attorney’s office in Alexandria, Virginia. Mom got in her accident at the same time a position in the Pender County District Attorney’s office came open. So, Burgaw, North Carolina I am home again.
Life here is calm compared to my life in Virginia. It’s not a bad thing, it’s just different. Growing up here, everyone knows everyone. I thought I had my life planned out.
Zane and I would get married as soon as I graduated from college, he would follow his dreams of being a cop and I would stay home and raise babies.
Only, Zane and I graduated from high school with the best of intentions
, but no follow through. He went to Cape Fear Community College for Criminal Justice while I went to William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. We didn’t even make it through the first quarter before I realized there was this whole big world outside of our little town that I wanted, no needed, to see.
I guess some things just aren’t meant to be.
Like Zane and me living happily ever after, and me seeing the whole world.
Life likes to play games like that, I suppose.
I sigh, dropping the box and looking at the bed in front of me. The very bed I used to lay with Zane in while looking up at the cheesy star stickers telling him to make a wish because we could.
Dreams that would never become reality were created in this room.
While we may not have stayed together and we certainly didn’t keep in touch, there is this piece of me that will always belong to Zane Lewis Collier.
They say that’s what first love is like. This piece of you given to someone else you can’t take back. At least I can say I gave it to the right kind of guy even if it wasn’t the forever kind of thing.
Chapter Three
Sometimes love comes around to knock you on your ass.
Zane
Harvey’s is pretty full tonight as Conner and I rack the balls to play a game of pool. We have had a hard week. Every extra hour we had, we spent volunteering in the neighboring county looking for a missing toddler. Today, while on patrol, the announcement came in. Her little body was found in a river in Pender County. The county she lived in has already arrested the mother’s boyfriend for concealing the child’s death.
In my years as a police officer, I’ve seen a lot of shit. Nothing gets to me until it involves kids. Then it settles in my belly and takes root. Like a mark on my soul, I can’t shake the feelings that linger. The way the community in Onslow County where the little girl was from and the surrounding counties like mine, Pender County, came together to search for her reminds me that in all the bad shit we see there is still good in the world.
